It is all well and good having the best intentions of setting up a rainy day fund and putting money in it regularly but actually, when you’re on a tight budget this is much easier said than done. However, there are some ways you can save without even really thinking about it. Here are some ways to make saving a little easier.
Round-Up Service
Lots of banks offer a round-up service these days and it can help with saving without realising. The idea is that every transaction that goes through your bank is rounded up to the nearest whole number and the difference is placed in a savings account. It is only a few pence here and there but generally because it’s a small amount it goes unnoticed within your budgeting. Instead, it adds up in your savings account until you need it.
Use an App
Apps like Chip & Plum are a good way to save variable amounts of money. You set up their app and give it access to your bank account. Every few days it assesses your bank balance and makes a small transfer of some of your balance to your savings account. The amount varies and you can choose how ‘aggressive’ you’d like it to be with its savings technique.
Make it Visual
If you are saving up on your own do what you can to make it visual – have a money box, tick off boxes to a target and celebrate the big wins. Anything you can do to motivate yourself and encourage putting money into your savings rather than saving it is a positive thing and something that you should explore.
