With winter fast approaching and energy bills being the talk of the town most of us are aware of how we should be watching our energy usage at home and what steps we could be taking to cut down our bills. However, it isn’t just at home where this matters and actually work premises are affected too. Here is a look at how to make your office energy efficient.
Take Control of Your Energy Use
Rather than just admit defeat and accept that your energy bills are inevitable you need to take control of your spending and your energy use. Take a look at the bills and see what it is costing you and speak to suppliers to see if you have any better options open to you. Discuss with your team the rising costs and ask that everyone take a little responsibility for improving the amount of energy your office uses.
Go Paperless
Of course, in some circumstances, it is essential that you print out documents and paperwork but often we are just in the habit of printing things when actually they could have been sent digitally instead. Printers aren’t free to run which means that unnecessary printing will be contributing to your energy bills and is something that you should try to cut down on where possible.
Think About Your Lighting
Lighting is a massive chunk of the bill for many workplaces & something that we can do more to improve. For starters, you can swap to energy-efficient lighting where possible. Opening blinds and letting in natural light on days when this is possible can also add up to a significant saving. Everyone should be switching off lights in rooms that are not being used, especially overnight when the office is not in use.
Encourage Everyone to Turn Stuff Off
Switching off appliances can really help, especially things like computers and screens which are often left on stand-by overnight rather than being switched off. Encourage everyone to take responsibility for their own workstation and that everything should be switched off completely when not being used again until the next shift.
