Helping Your Child with their Exam Revision

Helping Your Child with their Exam Revision – Exam season is an extremely busy time, and stressful to say the least. Meticulous planning is required and having enough time to prepare. For parents we have some advice below from a private sixth form in Cambridge on how you can help your child and be a support.

Create a Timetable

With exams so close, it’s vital that children make the most of their time so that they can complete all of their revision. What can be a great help is having a carefully planned timetable to ensure that nothing goes amiss. While it can be tempting to add in as much revision as possible, it’s important to be realistic so that your child can plan appropriately and study without experiencing burnout. Breaks are key as they help children keep their concentration, stay energised and perform at their best.

There are many different ways that children can revise. Some prefer writing notes in a colourful and memorable way, whereas others prefer reading them out loud and being tested. It all depends on the kind of learning style your child has. If you’re new to the concept of learning styles, it’s the idea that we all have a preferred way of learning and there are three groups that we typically fall under. Below is a breakdown of each and what you can do to support your child in their learning.

Our final piece of advice for parents is to not create any undue stress. Exams are a stressful experience as they are, and your child will require reassurance to get through them. While of course, you want them to do well and push them, be mindful of setting unrealistic expectations and the way you handle things.
