As parents or caregivers we take on many job roles, but helping with a child’s learning and supporting their education is definitely up there with things that we are expected to do. We all know the importance of education and attending school, but it is also important that learning is supported outside of this setting – and that is where you can help at home. Let’s look at helping with a child’s learning.
Get Everyone Involved
Getting everyone involved in learning at home is a good way to help keep everyone motivated and interested. If you have children of different ages then set times when homework etc is to be done – and encourage the older ones to play their part in supporting the younger ones in learning, read a book together etc.. Having fun while doing learning at home is essential, so making it a family activity can really help.
Take an Interest
Taking an interest in your child’s education is a must – but not just the academics bit! Rather than just asking them what they did at school or what homework they have approach things from a different angle. Asking them what they enjoyed at school is a good way to get them to open up, and then you can expand the conversation from there.
Give Rewards
We probably wouldn’t go to work if there wasn’t the reward of a paycheck coming out way, so make sure that children understand the rewards they can get for attending school and putting in effort to learning at home. It doesn’t have to be money and it doesn’t have to be a reward every day; just something that shows them their hard work will pay off and so it’s worthwhile them doing it.
