Although there is still lots to look forward to at this time of year, the truth is that the cold weather and the longer, darker evenings can be tough going. Even today, it might be daytime but it’s grey, rainy and miserable and that can leave you feeling a bit ‘ugh’. Here are some ways we have found that help with your mental health when life is tough.
Don’t Be Hard On Yourself
One thing that we can all do for ourselves is to stop being so hard on ourselves. The truth is that life is tough and can be hard to cope with – and that is okay. If you are struggling or find yourself thinking that you aren’t doing enough, remind yourself that you are doing your best and that is okay. We’re all at different stages in life & being hard on yourself for the things that you feel you aren’t doing will never leave you feeling good.
Reach Out For Help
Have you ever had something on your mind and after a chat with a friend felt immediately better about things? Sometimes even just saying things out loud is enough to leave you feeling more able to tackle things – even if no practical help or advice has been offered. If you feel as though your mental health is suffering then reaching out for professional help is something that can definitely help – but can feel overwhelming. Online mental health services like The Awareness Centre are designed to help you take things a step at a time and you can start with online counselling of any kind if this is the right move for you. With a variety of experts and professionals for you to talk to, it’s a great way to reach out for help without needing to worry too much about who to contact and how to go about that.
Fill Your Time
Sometimes when things just feel too much it can be hard to find the motivation to carry out tasks you enjoy, let alone explore things like trying new jobbies or meeting new people. However, actually, sometimes if you can bring yourself out of your comfort zone and attempt these you’ll often find that they really do help take your mind off of things. They might not be a miracle cure but they can be a very welcome distraction and when you’re struggling with mental health that can only be a good thing.
Of course, mental health is a complicated issue and everyone is different. There are no quick fixes but there are definite ways to give you a chance of dealing with stuff much easier. If one method you try to help your mental health doesn’t work don’t be afraid to try something else until you find what does work for you – look after yourself.
