Home First Aid Kit – Having a simple home first aid kit is a necessity item. You can buy prepackaged kits designed for specific uses like cars or workplaces. If you prefer to gather your own items here is a rundown of the most basic items you should include regardless of the setting.

A first aid kit isn’t meant to cover treating serious injuries and is just there so you can provide first aid in an emergency while professional medical help is sought.

The item to follow should be included in your first aid kit;

Sterile dressings to cover small and larger wounds. The type with a padded dressing attached to a prerolled bandage is quick to use at short notice in an emergency situation.

A selection of more specific dressings including a sterile eye pad. Sterile pads of different sizes should be included too for quick use.

Both fabric and waterproof plasters should be included. Before applying these check that the person does not have any allergies to the adhesive used. Different types of plaster are available, blue plasters are used within the catering industry. Plasters are useful for quickly covering a cut or graze. Gel plasters are used on blisters to provide cushioned protection.

Specifics

Other items tend to be more specific to the tasks at hand. If you are working with something hazardous you should always have a suitable first aid kit on hand. It should contain specific items and products to help with any problem generated by the task at hand as well as more general problems. Datasheets for hazardous products are generally provided by manufacturers so the individual risks can be assessed and mitigated. If in doubt you should check with a trained medical professional on specific items as specific advice is outside the scope of this article.

We would love to hear about and share the contents of your home first aid kit.
