If you’re anything like us then you’re not quite (at all) ready but that doesn’t mean you don’t have time to turn things around. Here are some tips for preparing for Christmas on a budget.

Make it a Family Affair
Christmas is all about spending time with loved ones, but that doesn’t mean you should go broke doing so. Instead, speak to everyone about the big day and see what you can do to make life easier – for example if you’re hosting Christmas dinner you could ask guests to bring a dish, some drinks or even some Christmas games with them. Everyone understands the cost of Christmas can soon add up and are likely to be happy to help. Not only does that take the pressure off financially, but it means that you get to try dishes created by other people, delicious!
Arrange a Secret Santa
Rather than all of the grown-ups in your family/friendship circle buying for each other, it’s not too late to suggest a secret Santa. Most people love the idea of a secret Santa and buying fun, mysterious gifts for people so this is not only a money saver but helps to bring some extra Christmas fun into the mix too!
Sort out a Budget
However you want to do things, sorting out a budget now is wise – and make sure you stick to it! It is easy to assume that you have to go over board in order to make sure everyone has a good time but that isn’t the case at all. When you think about it Christmas dinner really is just a Sunday roast with a few extras; so don’t stress about it needing to be anything extravagant!
Think About Next Year
One thing that can help with Christmas on a budget is being prepared; it might be too late for 2021 but after Christmas make sure you shop the Boxing Day and New Year sales for gifts, gift wrap, Christmas crackers etc. that you’re bound to be able to snap up cheap and put away for next year – perfect!
