There are loads of benefits to working at home, especially if you work for yourself and have a little freedom to choose the hours you work. However, as much as there are many benefits it can be hard to stay on track and stay motivated – here are some easy ways to stay motivated when working at home.
Stick To a Routine
One of the best things you can do when working at home is trying to stick to a routine. As a freelancer, this can be tough as you often have to work when the work is available and so it’s not a simple as working a 9 to 5. However, on days when work is a little quieter try to stick with working – catch up on admin, schedule some social media posts etc.
Although it can be tempting to take the day off and head to the nearest pub garden if you do this every day then your motivation will soon be out of the window which can make it hard to get going again when the work does come in!
Get Your Day Organised
Start your day by making a list of things that you want to get done that day; that way you get the thrill of being able to tick off the list as you get things done. Be realistic in your tasks, and as above if you don’t have any actual work in still think of some tasks that you have been putting off that you can get done and feel better about things.
Can you outsource some jobs to make life easier? Thinking in this way is a real help towards keeping motivated when you are working at home.

Take Breaks
Although it’s definitely not sensible to run off to the pub garden every day, there is something to be said for taking a break from work. So if it is a nice day then make sure you take a proper lunch break and sit in the sunshine, recharging your batteries for the afternoon shift of work you have to do.
A walk around the block or even an early finish now and then to catch up with friends can make a big difference to how you are feeling & then definitely helps with staying motivated. With breaks, working at home becomes much easier.
Get Some Exercise
Working at home can mean you suddenly are faced with less physical activity, if left unaddressed this could affect your health in both the long and short term. Getting this physical activity back in your life doesn’t have to be difficult.
A simple yoga mat that rolls up can enable you to exercise in a small space, or take a modern approach and try an exercise program on a games console.
Various games are available, those like Just Dance are not specifically for exercise, but they are fun and give you the movement and heart rate rise needed to ensure your long-term health. Working at home can enable simple exercise, there are many ways to achieve this.
Don’t forget outdoor activities either, being stuck in the house for endless periods can have a negative effect on both your physical and mental health. Simply leaving your car at home for the odd shopping trip and walking instead can give you an exercise boost without much effort at all, it also gives you a break, some fresh air and mental stimulation.
Of course, there are plenty of sports that can be played, these often have the benefit of social interaction, not only boosting your health but increasing your social circle. Exercise is definitely something that should not be overlooked when you are looking for ways to stay motivated when working at home.
