Consider the Room

The room you are decorating is likely to have a big effect on the colour of paint and overall decor you choose. For example, you probably want different colours if your bathroom than you do in your living room – although, there are NO rules so go for what feels good to you. Think about the shape of the room,  what you want to achieve and how you want it to feel.

How Much Light Does It Get?

The direction of your room & how much light it gets makes a big difference, especially if you’re painting somewhere like a living room. You probably want your living room to feel nice and light during the day, so you want paint that is going to help make this happen. If your room doesn’t get much natural light then avoiding darker colours is a good idea, because this can make the overall finished look and feel of the room dark and dinghy.

The Rest of the Room

Think about the rest of the room in terms of style – do you have a centrepiece for the room or wall art that you intend to display? Picking out colours in items that you already have in the room can help to ensure that everything comes together perfectly. Of course, if your preference is for a mismatch of colour then you should absolutely follow your heart but teaming up colours with items you know will be placed in the room is a good way to look for colours that you know will work together.

The truth is that there are no real rules when it comes to choosing paint & what colours you should have. Do your research, look at all of your options and always go for a colour that you LOVE!
